April 27, 1999 Meeting at the Service Center

Mike Lazano, Project manager for Cottage Lake Park and Kevin Brown of King County Parks presented an update on the Park.

Work in the park has been hampered by unanticipated water problems including a high water table producing many springs in the park. Phase II is being completed, the pool will open on Memorial Day and as much of the park as possible will also be opened. The newly planted grass is growing slowly in this cold weather and needs to be well established if it is to survive public traffic

Phase III will add 32 parking spots on the eastside. The tennis court is open to discussion; it may be that some type of court that allows more than 4 people to use it at one time would better serve our population. We asked that the picnic shelters not be built as shown on the drawing but be spaced so each shelter had it's own play area. The pad for the performance area is in, no power yet. Some type of cover is in phase III or a picnic shelter may be located very near to provide musicians shelter. The add-on to the play area should be complete by May 16th. An additional restroom goes on the eastside, maybe an interpretive site. It was suggested that the picnic shelters could be named for persons who have been significant supporters of the park…Norms Shelter, Louise's Shelter etc. There are to be a total of 4 picnic shelters in the completed park and restrooms on each side of the park.

The park will likely be closed in Sept of 2001 for Phase III

Geoff Clayton returned the KC owned lands map at this meeting, what happened to it?

Kevin attended the CPI meeting. Rick Batista has something to do with new rules and regs for cell towers. Recreation facilities are a high priory in the GMA 2000 plan. I gave Geoff Clayton the papers Maria Cain sent to us with existing rules and regs of cell tower location do's and don'ts,
