Walsh, Jan Hunt, Jeanne Hannah, Kristen Bryant & Peter Rimbos

Marissa and Nancy met with Murthy Srinivas at 7:00 to introduce him to the UBCC  programs and answer any questions he had about the formation of a UAC where he lives and/or his participation in the Upper Bear Creek Community Council.  He expressed an interest in becoming involved in the affairs of unincorporated King County and any government entities that affect the area of his home.

Meeting began at 7:30 with an update on several community projects, the Bear Creek Highlands, A Better Avondale update and waste management service when there’s snow on the ground!

Paul Reitenbach of DDES gave a preliminary overview handout of the 2012 Comp Plan review with emphasis on One item in the Cottage Lake area…the lot recently sold to Walgreen’s Drug Store.  Community concerns dealt with a wetland on part of the property and the additional traffic created by the store.  Paul was asked about the proposed 20” natural gas pipeline to be placed on the Told River Trail Easement that runs adjacent to the Brookside home development (original Street of Dreams)

Peter Rimbos, Greater Maple Valley UAC, and Kristen Bryant, Black Diamond native, gave a presentation about the massive MPDs (6,050 homes, 1.15M sq ft Commercial space) planned for Black Diamond. They requested our members consider testifying in person or in writing regarding the chaos generated from such expansion (quintupling the City's population) without adequate transportation infrastructure. In particular, concerns were detailed about locating critical infrastructure, such as three schools and a large Detention "Lake," in the the surrounding Rural Area. This exploits the Rural Area and thus "enables" the adjacent urban MPDs in the Black Diamond UGA.

Kevin Coughlin was able to address some of the anticipated traffic issues from development here and in Black Diamond…he has recently been appointed to the King County  Transportation Concurrency Expert Review Panel.

Our thanks to the Water District being kind enough to open the conference room early for us and patient about the discussion running past their 9:00 closing time!
