At 7:30, Mike Crandell of King County Parks gave a synopsis of the 2008 reorganization of the KC Park System and showed a map designating the different Park Sections and locations.  He recalled his negotiations with Puget Sound Energy and their plans to level the utility corridor adjacent to the Cottage Lake Park by removing all trees ever able to reach overhead power lines.  A list of replacement vegetation to be planted in the utility corridor by volunteers from Bear Creek Middle School in March of 2010 and water for those plants to be provided by PSE . (for unknown length of time)  Community members had questions on plant selection, concern for lack of park screening from highway, and possibility of fencing or planting more trees within the park in future to provide that screening.

Copies of the 2008 Annual Report on Veterans and Human Services Levy were handed out.  Sadikifu Akina-James gave a history of this Levy and a synopsis of the way $13.5 million was divided equally between services to Veterans and Non Veteran Human Services in King County as mandated by the State.  Kathy Brasch explained the system of an appointed Human Services Levy Oversight Board, saying that 20 thousand persons were helped by these services in 2008.  This board participates in defining services and determining the contracted service providers.  Joel Estey spoke about his role as Regional Veterans Service Manager, Veterans and Community Services.  Comments or questions to:

Jerry Hicks gave a report on the Strategic Road Services Stakeholders Group meeting in Preston on Jan 19th.  The meeting was facilitated by Barbara de Michele, KCDOT Community Relations Planner.  Discussion of how King County could improve service delivery to rural areas and how service outcomes and performances can be measured so King County will know if they are succeeding. Challenges of the County budget were discussed in regard to Road Services.  This group will likely meet again in May and September of 2010.

An update on the progress of “A Better Avondale” was sent in by Joanna Hamed and Megan
DeSantis, noting the interim patch at 151st & Avondale, plans for resurfacing and the relocation of the north bound speed meter.  Speed meters are reportedly effective in slowing traffic to posted limits!

Richard Lund gave more information about the 2010 COMP PLAN UPDATE Draft to be presented Jan 27th at the Woodinville Water District Offices at 5:30 PM.  Parts of it refer to Cottage Lake Area.
