Meeting opened at 7:40 by Geoff Clayton who reported on the all County UAC meeting on Nov. 17 th in Maple Valley. UBCC’s issues included a pedestrian activated light at the crosswalk to Cottage Lake Park and finding an alternative way to dispose of prescription drugs, not using the EPA recommendation of flushing the down toilets where that can find their way into streams leading to rivers that support our drinking water and fish habitat.

Craig Wiley presented plans for an Odyssey III installation in Cottage Lake Park as an active recreation team building aid. It would be used with supervision by YMCA summer campers and the public occasionally, under the same supervision. The installation would be parallel to W/Rd. on the park side of an existing screen of trees. It’s a rope course up to 35 ft tall and 350 feet long. There have been a number of these courses installed nationwide since 1960, gaining in popularity in 1980. Cost of installation and management comes from Partnership Grant monies and is indorsed by KC Parks. It was disappointing to have so few community members input for this presentation and it may be mentioned at the Cottage Lake Stewardship meeting Nov. 28 th at Woodinville Library, 7: pm.

Beth Cullen presented an update on the condition of Cottage Lake waters. The pollution sources are still being identified; county staff are working on upstream issues and exploring use of a one time alum treatment to seal the lakes bottom of decaying masses. All in an effort to reach national lake water quality standards. This is not an unusual condition for a small, shallow lake.

Meeting closed at 9:10PM, next meeting in January. Happy Holidays!
